Crystal Palace Loses Appeal Against Europa League Demotion
Crystal Palace has declared that "sporting merit is rendered meaningless" following the rejection of their appeal against being demoted from the Europa League to the Conference League.
After securing victory in the FA Cup last season, Palace earned a spot in Europe's secondary competition. However, the club faced sanctions from UEFA for violating multi-club ownership regulations.
On Monday, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld UEFA's ruling.
In a strongly worded statement, Crystal Palace expressed their frustration, stating it is "almost impossible to receive a fair hearing." They emphasized that the decisions made by UEFA and subsequently endorsed by the CAS demonstrate a disregard for sporting merit.
The club further stated, "It appears that certain clubs, organizations, and individuals possess unique privileges and power. This growing and unhealthy influence has shattered the hopes and dreams of Crystal Palace supporters and poses a troubling outlook for aspiring teams across Europe, who face uneven application of rules and sanctions in the most blatant manner."
Crystal Palace concluded by announcing their intention to "continue to seek legal advice on the next steps" as they prepare for their upcoming participation in the Conference League.
