Daniel Levy Steps Down as Chairman of Tottenham Hotspur
Daniel Levy has resigned as chairman of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club after nearly 25 years at the helm. So, who currently owns the club?
The majority of Tottenham Hotspur is owned by the British investment group Enic, which holds 86.58% of the club. The remaining 13.42% is held by a consortium of minority investors.
Levy retains a 29.88% stake in Enic but will no longer have any direct involvement with the club.
The majority of Enic is controlled by British businessman Joe Lewis and his family, who also own the Tavistock Group, a private equity firm.
In 2022, Lewis transferred control of Tottenham to a family trust.
Financial documents submitted to the UK's Companies House indicate that Lewis no longer exercises 'significant control' over the club.
Recent months have seen significant changes in the club's hierarchy, with the Lewis family playing a pivotal role in these developments.
The younger generation of the Lewis family, specifically Joe's children Vivienne and Charlie, have been instrumental in making key decisions.
In April, the club appointed Vinai Venkatesham as the new chief executive, while Peter Charrington became the non-executive chairman, a newly created position following Levy's departure.
In an official statement, Tottenham confirmed that there would be 'no changes to the ownership or shareholder structure.'
How Did Enic Become Tottenham's Owners?
Enic first became involved with Tottenham in the late 1990s by acquiring a minority share. They became the majority shareholder in the 2000s after purchasing 27% of Alan Sugar's 40% stake.
At that time, Levy took over as chairman from Sugar, and in 2007, Enic acquired Sugar's remaining shares in the club.
Since then, Enic has gradually increased its stake, now owning 86.58% as of 2025.
During Enic's tenure, Tottenham won the League Cup in 2008 and the Europa League in 2025. The ownership group also invested in a new stadium, which opened in 2019 at a cost of approximately £1 billion.
