Eddie Howe Praises William Osula's Development at Newcastle United
Manager Eddie Howe expressed his relief that forward William Osula remained with Newcastle United following the transfer deadline, noting that he now appears to be the "complete package."
The 22-year-old was on the verge of joining Eintracht Frankfurt last month, but the transfer ultimately fell through.
Since then, Osula has made significant contributions to Newcastle in the Premier League, Carabao Cup, and Champions League, notably assisting in Bruno Guimaraes' 90th-minute winner against Fulham on Saturday.
While record signing Nick Woltemade continues to be the first-choice striker, Osula's input has been particularly valuable following Yoane Wissa's knee injury sustained during international duty with DR Congo.
Howe stated, "The next step was for Will to try and play regularly, which was the aim of the Frankfurt move, especially with us bringing in two strikers." He added, "Obviously, it didn’t happen – and much to our relief it didn’t, because Yoane picked up an injury, and Will is vitally important to us.
"We believe in his talents. He has speed, which was evident when he came on the pitch the other day. He’s quick and athletic, and through his dedication in training, he has developed a better understanding of how to manage game situations. He has benefited from this and now looks like the complete package."
Osula made his impact felt when he came on in the 86th minute against Fulham, setting up Guimaraes' decisive goal after Bernd Leno parried his shot.
Despite dealing with an ankle injury that has limited his participation in finishing drills, Howe remarked that Osula's primary goal is to help the team. "The Will I know is a great personality with a zest for life," he said. "He’s always laughing and joking, and he is well-liked in the dressing room, maintaining close friendships. What has changed this year compared to last is his serious approach to his work. When it’s time to work, he adopts a different demeanor and is focused on his development and performance, which has been a positive change."
