Egypt Draws with Angola in Africa Cup of Nations
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah and Manchester City player Omar Marmoush were unused substitutes as Egypt, the Group B winners, drew with Angola in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
The seven-time champions fielded a completely changed starting lineup, having already secured the top spot heading into their final match, resulting in a lack of offensive sharpness in Agadir.
Angola needed a win to maintain their hopes of progressing and will now face an anxious wait to determine if their two points are sufficient to qualify for the last 16 as one of the four best third-placed teams from the six groups.
Benin, Sudan, and Mozambique have already secured at least third place in their respective groups, each with three points.
Angola's winger Fredy struck the outside of the post early in the second half, while Zizo, one of three substitutes introduced by the Pharaohs at halftime, tested goalkeeper Hugo Marques with a shot from inside the box shortly thereafter.
Salah and Marmoush had previously contributed to Egypt's 2-1 comeback victory over Zimbabwe in their opening match, followed by a 1-0 win against South Africa, where Salah scored the decisive penalty.
Egypt will remain in Agadir to face a third-placed team from Group A, C, or D next Monday at 16:00 GMT, with their opponents to be determined after the group stage concludes on Wednesday.
In a simultaneous Group B match, South Africa secured a 3-2 victory over Zimbabwe, allowing them to advance automatically with a four-point advantage over Angola.
