Why Did Ekitike Take His Shirt Off?
This suspension is particularly frustrating for both Liverpool fans and Ekitike himself. The French forward had already received a yellow card shortly after coming on at the start of the second half, penalized for a foul and subsequently throwing the ball in the air in frustration.
After scoring the winning goal with just five minutes left, Ekitike celebrated by taking off his shirt to display it to the jubilant Liverpool fans, only to be informed by teammate Jeremie Frimpong of the implications of his actions.
“I’m sure he wasn’t aware of the yellow card in that moment,” Isak told ITV regarding Ekitike’s dismissal. “When you score a goal, you get caught up in the moment. It’s unfortunate.”
Is Isak Fit to Start at Palace?
Isak has been gradually integrated into the first team following his transfer from Newcastle on deadline day. The Swedish forward had missed out on a proper pre-season due to the transfer saga but showed promise in his 45 minutes of play against Southampton.
When asked if he felt ready to start at the weekend, he responded, “I feel good. Every game I play helps me get in better shape. It’s hard to say. It’s a mix of fitness and football readiness. I feel I’m in a position to make a difference.”
