Fan Commemorates Crystal Palace's FA Cup Victory with Unique Tattoo
John Murray has commentated on countless football matches throughout his career, but his remarks following Crystal Palace's FA Cup victory in May 2025 have left a lasting impression on one devoted fan.
Lewis Carey now carries a permanent reminder of his team's first major trophy.
Eberechi Eze's goal secured a surprising 1-0 victory over Manchester City, prompting Carey to tattoo his entire calf with the words Murray spoke on BBC Radio 5 Live immediately after the final whistle at Wembley Stadium.
The 141-word tattoo features the phrase: "What a moment for all of South London, the scenes in the stands here, the flags, the celebrations, I swear you can hear half of Wembley shaking right now."
"It's just the words; listening to them gives me goosebumps," Carey shared on 5 Live Breakfast. "Your team has won the FA Cup, and you want to get a tattoo to commemorate that moment. After the final, I saw the words in a video on Facebook, and they've stayed with me ever since."
Fellow commentator Ian Dennis received a photo of the tattoo from Carey on social media and subsequently shared it with Murray.
"It almost brought a tear to my eye; it's all about the achievement for Crystal Palace, and that is the crowning moment," Murray said on 5 Live Breakfast. "As a commentator, you strive to articulate what it means to the fans—like Lewis—and the emotions they experience. In those moments, you can't prepare, and it’s something that just flows out in the heat of the moment."
