Fantasy Premier League (FPL) is set to return for the 2025-26 season, featuring updated elements that promise an engaging experience for participants.
Alongside changes in player pricing and numerous new signings in the league, there are new scoring methods and additional chips to enhance team strategy throughout the season.
Here's a comprehensive look at the latest version of the game.
Put Your Chips In
A significant update for the upcoming season is the allowance for two uses of each of the four chips during the season. These chips include bench boost, free hit, triple captain, and wildcard. Players can utilize each chip once in the first half and once in the second half of the 19-match segments.
The bench boost chip allows all four substitutes' points to contribute to the total score for a game week. Free hits enable players to temporarily change as many team members as desired for a single game week, with the team reverting to its original lineup the following week.
The triple captain chip triples the score of the team's captain for a single game week, as opposed to the usual double. The wildcard permits unlimited permanent transfers to the team in one game week. However, unlike the previous season, the assistant manager chip will not be available to players.
Defence Could Win Championships
Outfield players will now earn bonus points based on their defensive contributions during a match. For defenders, actions such as clearances, blocks, interceptions, and tackles are considered defensive involvements.
Midfielders and forwards will also earn points for clearances, blocks, interceptions, tackles, and ball recoveries. Defenders receive two bonus points for every 10 defensive actions, while midfielders and forwards earn two points for every 12 actions.
If this system had been implemented in the 2024-25 season, Everton's James Tarkowski would have topped the defensive involvement leaderboard with 44 bonus points, surpassing all other players. Chelsea's Moises Caicedo would have led the midfielders with 42 bonus points, six points ahead of any other midfielder.
