Former Liverpool Women's Manager Matt Beard Found Dead
Former Liverpool women's manager Matt Beard was found deceased at his home, a coroner's court hearing revealed.
During a hearing on Monday in Ruthin, North Wales, coroner John Griffiths reported that paramedics were summoned to Beard's residence in Deeside, Flintshire, before he was transported to the hospital.
Beard, aged 47, passed away in the hospital at 21:15 BST on September 20. The hearing has been adjourned pending a full inquest at a later date.
Beard led Liverpool to consecutive Women's Super League (WSL) titles in 2013 and 2014. He returned for a second term at the club in 2021 but was dismissed in February of this year.
His most recent position was at Burnley, where he resigned after just two months in charge in June.
Since his passing, there has been a significant outpouring of support from the football community.
A minute's silence was observed in his honor before the kickoff of all WSL and WSL2 matches on Sunday, September 21. Liverpool's match against Aston Villa was postponed.
Manchester United manager Marc Skinner referred to Beard as an "icon," while England legend Fara Williams described him as "one of a kind with the purest of souls."
A fundraiser organized by journalist Jacqui Oatley to support Beard's family has raised over £50,000.
