Gary O'Neil Appointed Manager of Strasbourg Following Rosenior's Departure
Gary O'Neil has been appointed as the new manager of Strasbourg , following Liam Rosenior's departure to join sister club Chelsea.
O'Neil, 42, has been without a managerial position since his dismissal from Wolves in December 2024.
He previously managed Bournemouth for a year during the 2022-23 season, where he successfully guided the club to avoid relegation before being replaced by Andoni Iraola.
His appointment at Strasbourg comes ahead of a Coupe de France match against third-tier Avranches this Saturday.
Strasbourg is owned by the same American group that owns Chelsea, leading to some discontent among supporters regarding Rosenior's exit.
The Strasbourg Supporters' Federation issued a statement expressing their concerns: "The departure of Liam Rosenior represents another humiliating step in Racing's subservience to Chelsea. For two and a half years, we have been raising alarms about this situation. The issues extend beyond the immediate sporting impact and the aspirations of a young coach; they are structural and threaten the future of French club football."
In November, Strasbourg president Marc Keller defended the owners, BlueCo, stating that they have positively impacted the club by investing over £100 million during the summer transfer window. He highlighted that multi-club ownership is becoming a common aspect of modern football, with significant investments made in the stadium, women's team, and academy.
Keller and new sporting director David Weir, who joined Strasbourg after leaving Brighton in the summer, were instrumental in O'Neil's appointment.
