Cardiff City Coach Dismisses Links to Strasbourg
Cardiff City head coach Brian Barry-Murphy has downplayed speculation linking him to French club Strasbourg, expressing his deep affection for the Bluebirds.
Reports from France suggest that Barry-Murphy is among the candidates being considered by Strasbourg to succeed their current manager, Liam Rosenior, should he take over at Chelsea.
Rosenior, the former Hull City head coach, is the frontrunner to replace Enzo Maresca after the Italian's departure from Chelsea earlier this month.
Strasbourg is owned by BlueCo, the investment consortium that acquired Chelsea in 2022.
When asked about the rumors linking him to the Ligue 1 club, Barry-Murphy stated, "I don't know. I love Cardiff. I love being at Cardiff; I feel very lucky to be here."
Barry-Murphy has had a successful first six months at Cardiff, leading the team to the top of League One while implementing an exciting style of attacking football.
The Welsh club maintained their three-point lead at the top of the table with a 1-0 home victory over Wigan Athletic on Sunday.
After the match, the former Manchester City Under-21s boss chose to concentrate on Cardiff's performance rather than the speculation from France. "I didn’t really know about it [the speculation], that’s for sure," he remarked.
He added, "I think we can improve a lot, and the players are also very excited. Winning three and drawing one of our four games in this 10-day period is something that I’m very grateful for. We just focus on ourselves and try to keep improving all the time. I’m so pleased with the players and how they are doing that. I feel very lucky to be with them."
