Hibernian in Advanced Talks to Sign Defender Grant Hanley
Hibernian Football Club is currently in advanced negotiations to sign Scottish defender Grant Hanley, as confirmed by head coach David Gray.
The 33-year-old player was released by Birmingham City earlier this summer after his short-term contract with the English League One champions came to an end.
Hanley was present at Easter Road last week to observe Hibs' Europa League qualifying match against Midtjylland, and Gray has indicated that efforts are being made to secure his signing.
"We are in advanced talks with that one," Gray stated before Hibs' first leg of the Conference League qualifying round against Partizan Belgrade. "We’re hoping to see what that one can look like. He’s someone that has played at a very high level.
"I talk about this often, trying to find the right type of people to bring into the football club. We’re working hard to see what we can do regarding that," he added.
The Dumfries-born centre-back has earned 62 caps for Scotland since making his debut against Wales in 2011, during which he has scored two goals.
If signed, Hibernian will be Hanley’s first Scottish club, following his previous stints with Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle United, and Norwich City.
