Hull City Held to Draw by Sheffield Wednesday
Hull City's pursuit of a top-six finish faced a setback as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Championship bottom club Sheffield Wednesday.
The Tigers managed to equalize twice through Mohamed Belloumi and Matt Crooks, but were unable to secure a winning goal.
Sheffield Wednesday, despite fielding a depleted squad, took the lead in both halves with goals from Svante Ingelsson and Bailey Cadamarteri.
Following this draw, Hull City remains in fourth place, having seen their three-match winning streak come to an end, while Wednesday continues to languish 30 points behind due to financial penalties.
The home team made a strong start, with fullback Harry Amass playing a key role. His cross from the byline narrowly missed Jamal Lowe at the far post after a clever combination with Barry Bannan.
Ingelsson opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a well-placed finish, capitalizing on a long clearance from goalkeeper Pierce Charles, which was a deserved lead for the Owls.
It took Hull half an hour to create a significant opportunity, and Belloumi was unlucky not to equalize after his attempt from Oli McBurnie's cross was cleared off the line by Liam Cooper.
However, just six minutes later, Belloumi did find the net, receiving a precise pass from Crooks before firing low past Charles at the near post.
After a strong start to the second half, Hull aimed to assert their dominance, but Wednesday regained the lead against the run of play when Cadamarteri lobbed Ivor Pandur after connecting with Bannan's lofted pass.
As they did in the first half, Hull responded quickly. Moments after missing a free header in the area, the ball fell favorably for Crooks, who calmly slotted it home.
Despite their efforts, the visitors could not find that crucial winning goal. Enis Destan headed weakly wide from Ryan Giles' cross during stoppage time, marking their closest attempt to secure victory.
In the end, it was a disappointing afternoon for Hull City, who could have moved into third place with a win but ultimately did not do enough to claim all three points.
