Jamal Musiala Set to Make Comeback for Bayern Munich
Jamal Musiala is poised to return to the Bayern Munich squad six months after suffering a broken left leg during the Club World Cup.
Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has confirmed that Musiala could be included in the lineup for the Bundesliga match against RB Leipzig on Saturday.
The 22-year-old German international sustained his injury, along with a dislocated ankle, during Bayern's Club World Cup match against Paris Saint-Germain in early July of last year.
Musiala collided with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma during the quarter-final and has been sidelined ever since.
"If all goes well today, the plan is that he will be there," Kompany stated on Friday.
"Clearly, Jamal has a lot of positive energy as he emerges from this challenging period. Even the small achievements feel significant. I always remind my players to cherish the feeling of returning to play."
Prior to his injury, attacking midfielder Musiala had a remarkable 2024-25 season, scoring 21 goals and providing eight assists across all competitions, helping Bayern secure the Bundesliga title.
He also played a pivotal role for Germany in Euro 2024, netting three goals in five matches, and will be eager for this comeback to enhance his chances of making the squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Following such an extended absence, Kompany emphasized that there would be no immediate pressure on either Musiala or Alphonso Davies, who has also returned to fitness, to perform at their peak right away.
Wing-back Davies, 25, made his comeback to the team in December after recovering from a cruciate ligament tear that kept him out at the beginning of the season.
"I don’t expect them to be the deciding factors in our matches immediately," Kompany remarked. "My focus is on their gradual integration and ensuring they reach full performance levels over time."
