Jim Goodwin Signs New Contract as Dundee United Manager
Jim Goodwin has signed a new 12-month rolling contract as manager of Dundee United, expressing confidence that the team is "only scratching the surface of what we can achieve together."
The 43-year-old former St Mirren and Aberdeen manager took the helm at Tannadice in March 2023, but was unable to prevent the club's relegation. However, they made a swift return to the top flight by winning the Scottish Championship.
Last season, Goodwin led his team to a fourth-place finish in the Premiership, securing qualification for the Conference League qualifiers.
“These accomplishments are just the beginning,” remarked Goodwin regarding Dundee United's recent successes.
“It has been a tremendous journey over the past two years, and I am incredibly proud of what we have built here. When I arrived, I aimed to give the supporters a team they could be proud of, and I believe we have collectively achieved that so far.”
Goodwin emphasized the importance of building a sustainable team with a strong identity, stating, “I truly believe we are only scratching the surface of what we can achieve together.”
Chief Executive Luigi Capuano added, “The strong relationship between Jim and the board puts us in the best position to ensure our continued success and achieve our long-term goals of regularly competing for the top six, advancing in cup competitions, and returning to the European stage.”
Capuano also noted that the positive connection between the club and its supporters played a significant role in Goodwin's decision to remain, as he sees further opportunities to build on the solid foundations laid since his arrival.
Dundee United will resume Premiership action after the international break with an away match against Hibernian on Saturday at 17:45 BST.
