Jonathan Rowe Joins Bologna After Marseille Fallout
England Under-21 Euros champion Jonathan Rowe has signed with Serie A club Bologna following a fallout with his former Marseille teammate Adrien Rabiot.
The 22-year-old forward has agreed to a four-year contract, with Italian media reporting a transfer fee of €19.5 million (£16.8 million).
Rowe and Rabiot, 30, were placed on the transfer list by Marseille after a physical altercation occurred following the club's 1-0 loss to Rennes in their opening Ligue 1 match on August 15.
Marseille head coach Roberto de Zerbi described the incident as unprecedented in his extensive career in football.
"For the first time in my career, I didn’t know how to respond or what actions to take," the Italian coach admitted. "I’ve never witnessed anything like this. I come from the streets and am accustomed to fights, but this was unlike anything I’ve seen before."
Rowe had an impressive performance for England, coming off the bench to help secure a second consecutive U21 Euros title with a 3-2 victory over Germany in Bratislava last June.
He joined Marseille from Norwich City on an initial loan in August 2024, later making the move permanent this summer, during which he scored three goals in 31 appearances for the club.
Bologna faced a setback in their opening Serie A match, losing 1-0 to Roma on Saturday.
