Larne Secures Dominant Victory Over Coleraine in Irish Premiership
Larne extended their lead at the top of the Irish Premiership to seven points following a convincing 3-0 victory over second-placed Coleraine.
The Inver Reds achieved this win with three goals in a decisive 10-minute span, sending a strong message in their quest for a third league title in four years.
Substitute Andy Ryan, making a return from a lengthy knee injury, scored twice shortly after coming on in the second half. Another substitute, Paul O'Neill, sealed the victory with a third goal at a snowy Inver Park.
Ben Wylie, who made his Coleraine debut after transferring from Portadown, had a chance to become an instant hero just two minutes into the match, but his shot rolled harmlessly to Larne's goalkeeper, Rohan Ferguson.
Coleraine created the first significant opportunity in the seventh minute when Joel Cooper's powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area was saved by Ferguson. Wylie was quick to respond to the rebound but could only send his effort over the bar.
At the other end, Coleraine defender Mark Connlly lost possession deep in his own half, allowing Matty Lusty to attempt a chip shot over the keeper Aidan Harris, which narrowly missed the target. Lusty came close again minutes later, connecting with Jordan McEneff's low cross but failing to direct the ball on target.
Fast Start
In a frantic opening 15 minutes, Tiarnan O'Connor had a chance when he drove forward, but his low shot was saved by Harris diving to his right.
Larne dominated the early stages of the second half, with Lusty heading narrowly wide from a Leroy Millar cross.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 74th minute when Levi Ives fouled Tiarnan O'Connor from behind, leading to a penalty. Ryan, who had only been on the pitch for a couple of minutes, sent Harris the wrong way from the spot.
Ryan nearly added to his tally shortly after with a snap-shot that Harris managed to tip over the crossbar.
However, the former Hamilton striker was not to be denied; he chased down a long ball from Matt Ridley, which fortuitously deflected off Lewis McGregor and into Ryan's path. He calmly directed a low shot past Harris.
Larne concluded their victory five minutes before the end when McEneff delivered a cross from the right, and Paul O'Neill headed the ball beyond Harris.
