Last-Minute Equalizer Keeps Birmingham City Unbeaten at Home
Demarai Gray's 99th-minute equalizer preserved Birmingham City's impressive unbeaten home streak and denied troubled Sheffield Wednesday a much-needed victory.
The Owls, who learned just before the match that their salaries would once again be delayed this month, rallied from a goal down to take the lead deep into stoppage time against a Blues side that has now gone 29 league games without defeat at St Andrew's.
Jay Stansfield's sharp finish early in the match seemed to set the stage for a comfortable win for the home side. However, a series of defensive blunders allowed Jamal Lowe to find the back of the net and secure an equalizer for Wednesday.
Teenage striker George Brown scored his second goal in three games, appearing to give Wednesday a remarkable lead until late pressure from Birmingham culminated in Gray rifling the ball through a crowded penalty area, finding the net off the underside of the bar.
This match marked the fifth time in seven months that Wednesday's players have faced delayed payments amid ongoing financial difficulties at Hillsborough. Traveling fans may have feared that these issues would affect team morale.

Booed by home fans due to his past with Aston Villa, Bannan executed a beautiful free kick into the box, where 19-year-old Brown volleyed it home to put Wednesday ahead.
The visitors fought tenaciously to maintain their lead, with Ernie Weaver making a crucial block to deny Gray, while Allsop ventured into the attack during set pieces as Birmingham pressed relentlessly.
As the clock ticked past the indicated eight minutes of stoppage time, it seemed Wednesday were destined for three points. However, when the ball fell to Gray once more, he unleashed a powerful shot that crashed in off the underside of the bar, securing a dramatic equalizer for Birmingham.
