Leeds Secures First Premier League Away Win of the Season Against Wolves
Leeds United achieved their first Premier League away victory of the season, defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers, who remain at the bottom of the table without a point.
The visitors had struggled to score in the league since Lukas Nmecha's late penalty against Everton on August 18. However, they responded impressively to Ladislav Krejci's well-placed opener, securing all three points at Molineux.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalized with a brilliant header from Jayden Bogle's deflected cross, before Anton Stach's expertly taken free-kick put Leeds ahead just eight minutes later.
Leeds extended their lead on the brink of halftime when Noah Okafor, receiving a pass from Stach, skillfully directed a low left-footed shot into the far corner of the net.
Wolves manager Vitor Pereira introduced Jorgen Strand Larsen, who signed a new five-year contract with the club this week, along with Marshall Munetsi and Hugo Bueno at halftime in an attempt to spark a response. However, the substitutions failed to yield significant results.
The closest Wolves came to reducing the deficit in the second half was a powerful shot by Munetsi from the edge of the box, which was easily handled by Leeds goalkeeper Karl Darlow.
As a result of this defeat, Wolves become only the sixth team in Premier League history to lose their first five matches of a season, while Leeds climbs into the top half of the table.
Leeds Analysis: Farke's Team Rediscover Scoring Touch
After going three consecutive Premier League matches without scoring, fans and analysts had begun to question where Leeds would find their goals this season.
Entering the match without a goal from open play in the league, the visitors delivered a resounding response to their critics with three impressive first-half goals.
Despite concerns regarding his fitness, Calvert-Lewin's outstanding header in the first half showcased that he retains the aerial prowess that made him one of the league's most formidable strikers.
If Leeds' first goal was commendable, their second was even more remarkable, as Stach combined precision and power to curl a brilliant free-kick into the top corner after Calvert-Lewin was fouled by Krejci.
Okafor's composed finish late in the half marked the first time Leeds scored three first-half goals in a Premier League away match since December 2020, when they triumphed 5-0 against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.
In the second half, Farke's side adopted a more cautious approach, limiting Wolves' clear chances while remaining a threat on the counter-attack.
Leeds' two-goal lead rarely appeared in jeopardy, and they comfortably secured their first top-flight away win since defeating Wolves 4-2 at Molineux in March 2023.
