Manchester City Defender Josko Gvardiol to Undergo Surgery
Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol is set to undergo surgery later this week after suffering a broken shinbone during Sunday’s 1-1 Premier League draw against Chelsea.
The 23-year-old Croatia international was substituted after 51 minutes of the match, and his central defensive partner Ruben Dias also left the field due to injury half an hour later.
In an official statement, Manchester City indicated that they are still working to determine the full extent of Gvardiol’s injury and the expected recovery timeline.
In response to the injury crisis, City has recalled academy player Max Alleyne from his loan at Championship side Watford. Alleyne, who is the son of former England cricketer and current Gloucestershire head coach Mark Alleyne, made 17 appearances for Watford during his loan spell.
With England centre-back John Stones also unavailable due to injury, the decision to recall Alleyne comes as Pep Guardiola’s squad seeks to address their mounting defensive challenges. The club is reportedly considering a January transfer for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi as they navigate this difficult period.
