Marcus Rashford Registered for Barcelona's La Liga Opener
Marcus Rashford has been officially registered to play for Barcelona in their La Liga opener against Mallorca on Saturday.
In recent seasons, the Spanish champions have faced challenges in registering players due to financial fair play regulations in Spain.
During the 2024-25 season, Barcelona's expenditures on player acquisitions and wages exceeded their revenue.
As of Friday, Rashford had not yet been registered, leading to frustration from manager Hansi Flick during his pre-match press conference.
"I’m not happy about the situation, as you can imagine. However, I understand the circumstances, and I have faith in the club," Flick stated.
He added, "We will concentrate on what we can influence and what is within our control. For everything else, I trust in the club's management."
On Saturday, Rashford's profile, along with that of new goalkeeper Joan Garcia, was listed on La Liga's official website for the first time.
The absence of Gerard Martin and goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny suggests that Barcelona may be staggering player registrations if unable to finalize them all simultaneously.
This season, the club has somewhat alleviated their registration issues by securing a long-term medical leave agreement with German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, which has freed up 80% of his wage value to register a replacement.
The Spanish champions will kick off their title defense against Mallorca on Saturday evening at 18:30 BST.
