Nahyan Chowdhury Crowned Winner of BBC's Last Pundit Standing
Nahyan Chowdhury fell to his knees in tears as Alex Scott announced his name at Wembley.
The 25-year-old from Liverpool was declared the winner of Last Pundit Standing, the BBC's innovative talent search aimed at discovering the next football expert.
Chowdhury, who works full-time as a chemist, was among 12 content creators selected from over 400 applicants for the show.
Throughout seven episodes, contestants faced challenges from prominent figures in football, with tasks set in iconic locations related to the sport.
Points were awarded for each challenge, allowing the top four contestants to advance to the semi-finals, culminating in a final showdown at Wembley on the day of the 2025 FA Cup final.
In the final, Chowdhury competed against Toby Addison, with both tasked to create a unique 60-second social media video focused on the FA Cup final.
Heading into the final, both finalists had won two challenges each, making for a closely contested conclusion.
"The chosen creator has demonstrated remarkable resilience and the ability to perform under pressure, indicating a promising future in this role," Scott remarked as she announced Chowdhury as the winner.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Chowdhury was embraced and congratulated by Addison.
Reflecting on his journey, Chowdhury recalled the first challenge at Goodison Park, where he was the only contestant to hit the crossbar. Hearing the news at Wembley felt like a complete circle moment for him.
"Fair play," Addison noted. "He came in week one at Goodison and hit the crossbar. It was destined."
With a contract secured at BBC Sport, Chowdhury's first day in his new role is set for August 12.
"I’m excited; I want to jump right in and make an impact to prove I am a worthy winner," he said. "A year ago, if you had told me I would be creating content and appearing on a TV show, I would have said 'no chance.' I never imagined this because people like me don’t typically get these opportunities. I feel incredibly fortunate to be in this position."
"I’ve done it; I’ve proven to myself that I can succeed, and now I aim to demonstrate to everyone else that I am a worthy winner. This is not the end; it’s just the beginning. I am the last pundit standing."
