Nico O'Reilly Extends Contract with Manchester City; Savinho's Future Looks Bright
Midfielder Nico O'Reilly has signed a new contract with Manchester City that extends until 2030, while the club is also nearing an agreement on a long-term deal for winger Savinho.
O'Reilly, 20, took advantage of the team's injury crisis last season, making his breakthrough into the first team. Most of his 21 appearances were in the less familiar position of left-back.
This season, he has participated in six games, and his new contract includes an option for an additional year.
“This is a day I will never forget,” said O'Reilly. “I have been at City since I was eight years old, and making it into the first team and playing matches is a dream come true. Being rewarded with a new contract is truly special.”
“I am really proud, and so is my mum! She has sacrificed so much to help me reach this point, so I am just as happy for her as I am for myself. But in truth, this is just the beginning for me. I have come so far, but I want to keep pushing, improving every day, and become the best player I can be.”
Savinho 'Will Be a Top Player' for City
Savinho, 21, joined Manchester City from French club Troyes for £30.8 million in 2024, where he has played 48 matches across all competitions and scored three goals.
During the summer, Tottenham initiated talks to acquire Savinho, but City sources indicated that they were not interested in selling him.
The Brazilian international has made four appearances this season, including a goal in Wednesday's 2-0 Carabao Cup victory against Huddersfield.
Before City’s Premier League match against Burnley on Saturday, manager Pep Guardiola expressed confidence in Savinho's potential. “He will become an important player once he improves his output,” he stated.
“For forwards, it’s always about numbers—goals and assists. Savinho created a lot last season, but in the final third, he was a bit too frantic. However, as he learns and matures—given his young age—he will develop into a top-class player. He can play on both wings, possesses speed, and has a strong work ethic.”
