Nottingham Forest is contemplating legal action in response to Tottenham Hotspur's interest in their midfielder, Morgan Gibbs-White, according to sources from BBC Sport.
It is believed that Forest is investigating whether a confidentiality agreement related to the £60 million release clause in Gibbs-White's contract has been violated.
BBC Sport reported on Thursday that Gibbs-White was scheduled for a medical examination on Friday, as Tottenham aims to activate the release clause.
Sources indicate that Forest is extremely displeased with Tottenham's approach in their pursuit of the England international, and they assert that their threat of legal action is serious.
Forest maintains that they have not granted Tottenham permission to negotiate with Gibbs-White and are prepared to take extensive measures to prevent the transfer.
Premier League regulations prohibit clubs from engaging with players contracted to another team without permission.
Tottenham is aware of the situation but remains hopeful of finalizing the deal.
Gibbs-White transferred to Forest from Wolves in August 2022 for a deal worth up to £42.5 million, with a five-year contract. He has played 118 matches for Forest over three years, scoring 18 goals and providing 28 assists.
He made his England debut as a substitute in a Nations League victory over the Republic of Ireland in September, under interim manager Lee Carsley. His latest appearance was in a 3-1 friendly defeat by Senegal at the City Ground, under new manager Thomas Tuchel.
This week, Tottenham has already acquired Mohammed Kudus from West Ham for £55 million.
Gibbs-White's teammate, Anthony Elanga, is nearing a £55 million move to Newcastle.
