Nottingham Forest Owner Pledges Support for Fans Injured in Train Stabbing Incident
Evangelos Marinakis, owner of Nottingham Forest, has announced he will cover the medical expenses for any fans affected by a mass stabbing incident on a train this past Saturday.
Passengers traveling from Doncaster to London were attacked by two men, with Nottingham Forest noting that "many of our London-based supporters were traveling home on that train" after a home match against Manchester United.
Eleven individuals sustained injuries and required hospital treatment, with two of them currently in a life-threatening condition.
“Everyone at Nottingham Forest is shocked and deeply saddened by what happened,” Marinakis stated. “The courage and selflessness demonstrated by our supporters on that train exemplifies the very best of humanity and the spirit of our club’s community.”
“We will ensure that any supporter involved in this incident receives the necessary financial support to access the best possible medical care as they recover. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected,” he added.
Alistair Day, a passenger on the train returning from the match, described the scene: “I was just by the buffet car. It was strange. I was at the end of the carriage, and all these kids were running up, and I thought it was some sort of prank—like Halloween or something.”
“Then it got louder, and I saw people with blood on them. I thought, ‘Oh, bloody hell, this is not good.’”
In an official statement, the club expressed its "deepest concern and heartfelt sympathy to all those affected by the shocking attack on an LNER train bound for London yesterday evening.”
“Many of our London-based supporters were on that train returning home after our match at the City Ground, and our thoughts are very much with everyone caught up in such a distressing incident,” Nottingham Forest added. “The club recognizes the extraordinary bravery displayed by many individuals, which undoubtedly helped prevent even greater harm. The entire Nottingham Forest family stands firmly behind them as they recover from the events of yesterday.”
