Paramount Secures Champions League Broadcast Rights in the UK
Paramount, the US media giant, has secured the rights to broadcast Champions League matches in the UK starting in 2027.
According to BBC Sport, the company will pay significantly more than the current deal of over £1 billion per year with TNT.
The agreement will span four years, lasting until 2031. Additionally, Amazon Prime will continue to air one match every Tuesday in the UK during this period.
This deal follows the joint UC3 initiative involving Uefa, the European Club Association, and commercial rights partner Relevent.
Paramount has collaborated with Uefa on the elaborate promotional films that have been featured during the Champions League draw for the past two seasons.
Sources indicate that this agreement could be viewed positively by the Premier League, as it adds another prominent broadcaster to the football rights market and is unlikely to decrease the overall value of TV rights.
Recently, there have been rumors regarding Paramount's interest in acquiring Warner Bros Discovery, which includes TNT in its portfolio.
