Penybont has been eliminated from European competition following a 4-1 aggregate defeat to Lithuania’s Kauno Zalgiris.
Trailing 3-0 after the first leg of the UEFA Conference League's first qualifying round, Penybont faced a formidable challenge upon returning to Cardiff International Sports Stadium.
The situation worsened when Aldayr Hernandez scored with a free header from a corner just 13 minutes into the match.
The Cymru Premier side quickly responded, as former Newport County player Nathan Wood leveled the score by striking the ball into the bottom corner.
However, hopes for a comeback were diminished when substitute Owain Warlow was sent off for violent conduct before even stepping onto the pitch.
Penybont had a potential penalty appeal and came close with an effort from Chris Venables, while goalkeeper Adam Armstrong made a remarkable double save to thwart the Lithuanian side.
This result, coupled with Haverfordwest's defeat to Malta's Floriana, leaves The New Saints as Wales’ sole representative in European football this season. They are set to face Differdange of Luxembourg.
Penybont manager Rhys Griffiths commented: "I've learned some lessons. I think I was perhaps too aggressive in the first game. Not to make excuses, but we were playing against a team with an €11 million annual budget, which is probably six or seven times that of TNS.
"It was always going to be a tall order, but I'm really proud of how we competed with them."
