Linfield maintains strong hopes of progressing further in the UEFA Conference League after securing a 0-0 draw with Zalgiris in the first leg of their second qualifying round tie in Vilnius on Thursday.
The second leg is scheduled to take place at Windsor Park in Belfast on July 31, with the winner set to face Vikingur from Iceland in the subsequent round.
Irish Premiership champions Linfield were eliminated from the Champions League at the first qualifying round stage following a 2-1 aggregate defeat by Shelbourne last week, while Zalgiris exited the competition after a marathon penalty shootout loss to Hamrun Spartans of Malta.
The visitors started brightly at the LFF Stadium, with Kieran Offord's effort easily gathered by Carlos Olses.
The home side responded well, and after 15 minutes, Euan East cleared Yury Kendysh's attempt off the line. Zalgiris recycled the attack, and Chris Johns managed to divert the rebound with his foot.
The hosts continued to dominate, creating more opportunities, including a shot from Dino Salcinovic that narrowly missed the right post.
Johns was called into action again, making a low save to deny Machop Chol's shot from the edge of the area and quickly closing down Liviu Antal to prevent a shot.
Zalgiris crafted another opportunity shortly after the restart, with Chol heading wide from Ovidijus Verbickas' cross.
The Lithuanian champions had a scare when Olses misjudged Ethan McGee's throw-in, dropping the ball, but Ebenezer Ofori cleared the danger before Linfield could capitalize.
At the other end, David Healy's side came close to scoring as Olses smartly pushed Matthew Fitzpatrick's first-time shot out of play.
Overall, it was a satisfactory result for Linfield on the road, leaving everything to play for in the return fixture in seven days.
