PFA Engages with Chelsea on Treatment of Sterling and Disasi
The Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) is currently in discussions with Chelsea regarding the treatment of squad members Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi.
At present, both players are training away from the club's first-team setup after head coach Enzo Maresca indicated that they are not part of his plans for the season.
The PFA has intervened to address concerns about the treatment of England forward Sterling and French defender Disasi.
Sterling, 30, has nearly two years remaining on his contract with Chelsea, which is valued at approximately £325,000 per week. Meanwhile, 27-year-old Disasi's contract is set to expire in 2029.
After spending time on loan last season, both players were anticipated to leave Stamford Bridge during the summer transfer window. However, they ultimately remained with the Premier League club, and it appears unlikely that either will feature in the first team before the January transfer window reopens.
The PFA aims to ensure that Sterling and Disasi have the opportunity to train at an optimal level, despite their exclusion from the senior team.
FIFA has stringent regulations concerning players who are isolated from their squads, especially in situations that could be construed as 'abusive conduct' by the club. Such circumstances may allow a player to terminate their contract on the grounds of 'just cause.'
The PFA has taken steps to ensure that clubs are aware of FIFA's regulations in this regard.
Both Chelsea and the PFA have been approached for comment.
