PSG Held to Draw by Athletic Club in Champions League Clash
European champions Paris Saint-Germain were unable to secure a victory against Athletic Club, yet they remain in a favorable position for progression in the Champions League.
Under the management of Luis Enrique, PSG currently holds third place in their group, just one point above the top eight. In contrast, Athletic Club finds themselves in 28th place, facing potential elimination.
PSG controlled the match at San Mamés, creating numerous clear chances but failing to find the net against goalkeeper Unai Simon.
Fabian Ruiz missed two promising opportunities, shooting over the bar, while Simon made crucial saves to thwart Senny Mayulu on either side of halftime.
The closest PSG came to scoring was when Bradley Barcola broke through on goal, only to see his powerful shot hit the crossbar.
Ruiz nearly clinched a late winner, but Simon, a fellow Spain international, made another excellent save, with Yuri Berchiche clearing the ball off the line.
The hosts from Bilbao managed only one shot on target, which came late in the game from Asier Hierro, and they now sit just two points away from the knockout phase playoff spots.
