Rangers Coach Danny Rohl Sees New Belief After First Win
Rangers head coach Danny Rohl expressed that his squad now possesses a "big belief" following their first victory under his leadership against Kilmarnock.
The 3-1 win marked Rangers' most convincing performance of the season and their first home league victory amid a challenging campaign.
Rohl's team is set to face Hibernian on Wednesday, with rivals Celtic currently five points ahead and recently appointed Martin O'Neill and Shaun Maloney at the helm after Brendan Rodgers' unexpected departure on Monday.
Leaders Hearts are eight points clear at the top, but Rohl senses a shift in momentum at Ibrox.
"This morning, I looked at the faces of my players, and I see there’s a big, big belief now," said the 36-year-old coach. "I think they feel it on the pitch. They believe in what we are doing in recent days.
"Of course, after the significant defeat against Brann, we witnessed a strong reaction. This is crucial for both players and us to see that after a setback, a comeback is possible.
"There was another setback during the game when it was 1-1, but we persevered and fully deserved the win."
When asked about Rodgers' surprising exit from Celtic, Rohl expressed sympathy for the Northern Irishman while emphasizing his focus on his own responsibilities. "The pressure is always on for a manager. This is football. It’s never pleasant when a manager is sacked. We are all in this together, but that’s the nature of the sport; sometimes we enjoy it, and other times we don’t," Rohl stated.
Striker Youssef Chermiti scored his first goal for Rangers in the victory over Kilmarnock following his reported £8 million transfer from Everton. His celebration seemed to address his critics in the stands after a difficult start in Glasgow.
Rohl noted that while Chermiti was clearly emotional, he needs to be more mindful of his celebrations in the future. "A celebration after a goal is always significant. You need to understand how to celebrate at times. I mentioned this upon my arrival; it’s not just about improving players on the pitch, but also off the pitch. We discussed this, and I believe he knows what to do next time. It was an emotional moment for him, but the most important thing is that he scored," Rohl concluded.
