Salford City's pre-season friendly against York City was abandoned after reports of racist abuse directed at Salford players by home fans.
The match was halted after 84 minutes, and shortly thereafter, it was officially called off.
The incident is currently under investigation by York City, a National League club, and North Yorkshire Police.
In a statement, Salford City, a League Two team, expressed its strong condemnation of racism in any form. The club emphasized its commitment to protecting its players and staff from such behavior and denounced the events of the evening in the strongest terms.
Salford City also extended its gratitude to York City for their prompt response to the incident.
York City described the incident as an "extremely distressing evening" in their statement.
The statement urged any spectators who witnessed the events to contact North Yorkshire Police or York City Football Club immediately.
York City also warned that any supporter found guilty of racial abuse would face the most severe sanctions from the club.
