Scotland Faces Injury Setbacks Ahead of World Cup Qualifier Against Greece

Scotland has encountered a significant setback as they prepare to face Greece in the World Cup qualifying match, with key player Billy Gilmour ruled out of Saturday's game in Piraeus.

Although Gilmour, who plays for Napoli, has not completely withdrawn from the squad, his absence will be felt as Scotland gears up to face Denmark three days later at Hampden Park, a match that could determine their fate in the group.

In addition to Gilmour, Udinese midfielder Lennon Miller and Bristol City defender Ross McCrorie have also withdrawn from the squad.

To address these losses, head coach Steve Clarke has called up two midfielders: Connor Barron from Rangers and Andy Irving from West Ham United.

Gilmour missed Napoli's recent 2-0 defeat to Bologna, a match captained by his Scotland teammate Lewis Ferguson, which saw the reigning Italian champions drop from first to fourth place in the league.

On Monday, the Scottish FA announced, "Billy Gilmour will not travel to the training camp in Turkey due to an injury and will not participate in the game against Greece."

Miller was also absent from Udinese's squad during their 2-0 loss to Roma, while McCrorie was substituted after 57 minutes in Bristol City's 1-1 draw against Watford.

Clarke had reintroduced McCrorie to provide cover at right-back, particularly with Brentford's Aaron Hickey just returning from injury and both Derby County's Max Johnston and Everton's Nathan Patterson currently sidelined.
