Sheffield Wednesday Receives £50m Takeover Offers Amid Administration
Three parties have presented Sheffield Wednesday's administrators with proof of £50 million in funds to facilitate a takeover of the Championship club.
According to BBC Sheffield, more interested parties are expected to emerge in the coming days.
The Owls entered administration last Friday, marking the end of Dejphon Chansiri's decade-long ownership.
This administrative move resulted in a 12-point deduction from the English Football League (EFL), leaving the team at the bottom of the second tier, 16 points adrift of safety.
On Thursday, the club's administrators announced that they successfully processed wage payments a day earlier than planned, following months of delays under Chansiri's tumultuous management.
Sheffield Wednesday is scheduled to face West Brom on Saturday, seeking their second league victory of the season.
Since the club's administration announcement, fans have lifted a boycott that had seen many supporters refrain from attending Carabao Cup matches against Leeds United and Grimsby Town at Hillsborough, as well as this month's home league game against Middlesbrough.
Administrator Kris Wigfield, who is spearheading the search for new ownership, stated on Monday that supporters have already contributed over £500,000 through ticket purchases and club shop sales.
Wigfield noted that there are currently “four or five interested parties that appear to be serious,” but due to EFL regulations, the club must remain on the market for 28 days before advancing to preferred bidder status.
“I’m hopeful that by the end of November, if things progress positively, we might have clarity on who will acquire the football club,” he shared during an interview on BBC 5 Live’s Wake Up To Money program. “Ideally, a deal could be finalized within this calendar year, allowing the new owner to participate in the January transfer window, pending EFL approval.”
Additionally, hundreds of fans attended an open training session for the first team at the Owls' home ground earlier this week. Sheffield Wednesday described the event as a gesture from the first-team squad and staff to express gratitude for the “unprecedented” support from fans during this challenging time.
