Sunderland Pursues Ajax Striker Brian Brobbey and RB Leipzig Defender Lutsharel Geertruida
Sunderland is in negotiations to sign Ajax striker Brian Brobbey and has finalized an initial loan agreement for RB Leipzig defender Lutsharel Geertruida.
The newly promoted Premier League club is seeking to bolster its attacking options following Chelsea's decision to recall loanee Marc Guiu, who was brought in to provide cover for Liam Delap, currently sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Brobbey, 23, is reported to be moving to the Stadium of Light for a fee of £21.6 million. The striker has earned eight caps for the Netherlands and has an impressive record of 56 goals and 24 assists in 163 appearances for Ajax across all competitions.
In addition, Sunderland has reached an initial loan agreement with an option to purchase Geertruida, pending the completion of a medical examination on Monday. The 25-year-old, who primarily plays as a right-back, featured in 35 matches for Leipzig last season but is set to leave the German club just a year after his transfer from Feyenoord.
Should the deal be finalized, Geertruida will become Sunderland's 13th signing of the summer, joining new defenders such as Nordi Mukiele, Omar Alderete, Reinildo Mandava, and Arthur Masuaku in manager Regis Le Bris' squad.
Sunderland has already invested £141.5 million during the transfer window, nearing Nottingham Forest's £142 million spent in the summer of 2022, which set a British record for a promoted club.
The club has also secured midfielder Habib Diarra for a record £30 million from Strasbourg, winger Simon Adingra from Brighton for £20.5 million, and midfielder Granit Xhaka from Bayer Leverkusen for £17.3 million.
