Sunderland Signs Omar Alderete from Getafe for £10m
Sunderland has finalized a £10 million deal to acquire defender Omar Alderete from Spanish club Getafe, with an additional £900,000 in performance-related add-ons.
The 28-year-old's transfer is contingent upon passing a medical examination, and he is anticipated to sign a four-year contract at the Stadium of Light.
This signing bolsters manager Regis le Bris' squad with a left-sided center-back, as the team aims to reinforce its lineup following their promotion back to the Premier League after winning the Championship play-off final in May.
Upon completion of the deal, Alderete will become Sunderland's 11th signing of the summer, bringing the total expenditure to just under £150 million when all add-ons are considered.
The new signings include former Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka, ex-Brighton winger Simon Adingra, and the club's record acquisition, Habib Diarra.
This influx of talent is offset by several notable departures, including Jobe Bellingham's transfer to Borussia Dortmund and Tom Watson's move to Brighton, which collectively generated around £37 million for the club.
Sunderland is set to kick off its first Premier League campaign since the 2016-17 season on Saturday, facing West Ham at home.
