Tragic Loss in Serbian Football as Coach Mladen Zizovic Passes Away
Players were left in tears as they learned of their manager's death during a match in Serbia's top flight.
Mladen Zizovic, the coach of FK Radnicki 1923, collapsed on the sidelines and received medical attention before being transported to a hospital during his team's game against Mladost Lucani on Monday.
Although the Serbian SuperLiga match continued, it was abandoned shortly before half-time when news of Zizovic's death reached the stadium.
Footage from the game showed players and officials from both teams visibly distressed by the tragic news.
The former international player from Bosnia and Herzegovina, aged 44, had only taken the helm at FK Radnicki 1923 on October 23.
In a statement, the club expressed, "Our club has lost not only a great professional but above all a good man, a friend, and a sportsman who, with his knowledge, energy, and nobility, has left a deep mark on the hearts of all who knew him."
The Bosnia and Herzegovina Football Association remarked that the football community has lost another true professional with Zizovic's passing. "During his illustrious playing career, Zizovic represented numerous clubs in the Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina, most notably HSK Zrinjski Mostar, FK Radnik Bijeljina, and FK Borac Banja Luka, in addition to wearing the national team jersey," they stated.
After retiring from playing, he dedicated himself to coaching, leading various clubs in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the surrounding region. His untimely death represents a significant loss for Bosnian-Herzegovinian football.
The Football Association of Serbia (FSS) conveyed, "Your love for football and the legacy you left will remain with us forever." Leading clubs, including Red Star Belgrade, also extended their deepest condolences.
