Tribute to Former Bristol City Forward Marvin Brown
Former Bristol City forward Marvin Brown has passed away at the age of 42 after a battle with cancer.
Brown made history as the youngest player ever to debut for the Championship club when he took the field in September 1999 at just 16 years and 71 days old.
He represented England at the Under-16 and Under-17 levels and played a total of 26 matches for the Robins across all competitions before transferring to Forest Green Rovers in the summer of 2004.
Following his time at Forest Green, Brown played for Tamworth, Yeovil Town, and Salisbury. He also dedicated part of his life to youth coaching in his hometown of Bristol, where he established Total Pro Soccer, a development center for young footballers.
Brown passed away on Monday, just over a week after returning to his home in Calne, Wiltshire, where he received end-of-life care for cholangiocarcinoma, a rare form of bile duct cancer.
In the summer of 2024, he took on the role of joint manager at Corsham Town FC, where he quickly became a favorite among supporters and staff. Under his leadership, the team achieved an impressive streak of 10 consecutive victories during a challenging period for the club.
The club expressed their condolences, stating, "He would always stay behind after the game to chat about life and football, even towards the end of his time with us when he was ill. He will be sorely missed, and we extend our thoughts and condolences to his young family during this difficult time."
Brown had faced numerous serious health challenges throughout his life, including a colon cancer diagnosis in 2022, which prevented him from obtaining life insurance. In response to his situation, a fundraiser for his wife Alexis and their two daughters has successfully raised over £63,000.
A charity match is scheduled to take place on 9 November, featuring a Marvin Brown XI competing against a Bristol City XI at Bath City’s Twerton Park, with proceeds aimed at further supporting his family.
