Wayne Rooney Criticizes Yoane Wissa's Actions Amid Newcastle Drama
Wayne Rooney has expressed that Yoane Wissa's decision to remove all Brentford-related content from his Instagram account is "very disrespectful."
Newcastle United recently had a £40 million bid for Wissa rejected, while the club is also facing uncertainty regarding striker Alexander Isak's future.
During a recent episode of his new BBC podcast, The Wayne Rooney Show, Rooney stated, "If I’m a Newcastle player, I don’t want Isak back."
He elaborated, "When players leave football clubs—something that happens frequently—there is a proper way to go about it. You cannot go on strike or refuse to attend training. Whether you want to leave or not, you must be present for your teammates and prepared to contribute if needed."
Rooney's comments came before Isak, who is reportedly eager to join Liverpool, made a statement indicating that "promises were broken and trust is lost."
Rooney further remarked, "For me, I don’t think there’s any way back for Isak at Newcastle. While some situations can be reconciled, personally, I wouldn’t be able to accept him back."
He continued, "In terms of Isak’s teammates, I wouldn’t want him back. Players can request to leave a club, or the club can inform them they are leaving, but professionalism is essential. You have friends in the team and fans who invest significantly in supporting the club; you can’t just abandon them. If a player acts this way once, they may do it again."
Nineteen days have passed since Newcastle declined Liverpool's £110 million offer for the Swedish international, who remains in a standoff with the club regarding his future.
According to BBC Sport, Isak believed he would be permitted to leave Newcastle if a major club made a suitable offer.
Meanwhile, Wissa, who returned home early from Brentford's pre-season training camp and was omitted from the squad for Sunday’s 3-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest, is keen to join Newcastle. He has removed all Brentford-related content from his Instagram account, prompting Rooney to comment, "I think Wissa is in a worse position than Isak primarily because of this. For Wissa to unfollow the club and delete all pictures associated with an organization that helped him develop as a player is troubling."
Rooney added, "These players seem to be acting immaturely or are poorly advised in their decisions. Many now have family members as agents, and sometimes the best choice is not the one that aligns with the player’s perspective. It’s disheartening to witness his behavior in recent days."
