"I’m very pleased with the performance," manager Thelin told BBC Scotland. "The players have put in tremendous effort in training and previous matches but hadn’t seen the results or goals they deserved.
"We saw positive signs against Shakhtar, and the connection with the fans was growing. The energy was palpable today. We started the game well, and the fans recognized the players’ efforts. That's how we strengthen our bond.
"There are still areas for improvement, but we are progressing week by week."
Throughout a challenging period, during which Aberdeen managed only five wins in 33 league matches before this weekend, Thelin has remained steadfast amid increasing pressure. There were concerns that the Scottish Cup victory over Celtic merely masked deeper issues within the team, but the win against Dundee signaled a return to form reminiscent of their strong start to last season.
The Dons recorded their highest totals for shots (20), passes (574), and expected goals (2.92) of the season, showcasing an attacking flair that had been missing.
"The connections within the team are improving," Thelin noted. "It was crucial to achieve a clean sheet today and maintain an aggressive approach. We pushed hard for victory against Motherwell and Shakhtar.
"We need to sustain this energy. It’s essential to represent Aberdeen with such vigor. Our proactive approach is evident, and we must keep pushing forward."
Karlsson's Growing Influence
Jesper Karlsson was a standout performer in Aberdeen's victory, scoring both the first and fourth goals.
His loan signing raised eyebrows, especially given that Bologna had paid £9.5 million for the Swedish winger two years prior. However, he is now demonstrating that he can live up to that price tag.
After netting a penalty in midweek, Karlsson recorded seven shots against Dundee, matching the highest total for any player in the Premiership this season. He also delivered 20 crosses and completed six successful dribbles.
Remarkably, Karlsson was not deployed in his usual wing position; instead, Thelin placed him as a second striker alongside Kevin Nisbet.
"We know Jesper's qualities," Thelin commented. "He’s adapting well, and with each game, he’s improving and forming better connections with his teammates.
