Alex Scott Aspires for England Call-Up Following Impressive Season
Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott has expressed that receiving a call-up to the England national team is his "ultimate goal" as he reflects on a transformative year in 2025.
The 22-year-old played a crucial role in helping England secure victory at the European Under-21 Championships in June, starting five out of the team's six matches.
This season, he has solidified his position in the Bournemouth squad, recently scoring his first goal in a 2-1 victory over Brighton.
"To play for the England senior team would be one of the proudest moments of my life," Scott shared in an interview with BBC Radio Guernsey.
"It's up to me to keep progressing as a footballer, enjoying the game, improving daily, and hopefully impressing the England manager to earn my chance.
"I understand it's a long journey ahead; I know I need to enhance various aspects of my game to reach that level, but I remain hopeful.
"I work hard every day and aim to impress in every match I play for this club.
"The caliber of players in the current England team is exceptional, making it a challenge to not only reach that level but also maintain it."
Scott's impressive form is even more remarkable considering he missed four months last season due to knee surgery.
After regaining his fitness and returning in February, he participated in 14 additional matches for Bournemouth, narrowly avoiding exclusion from the summer tournament due to another injury.
"I had a good run towards the end of last season, which was encouraging, but then I broke my jaw," he explained.
"That was another setback, and the first five months of the year were quite challenging.
"However, receiving the call-up to England made it all worthwhile, and winning the tournament has truly made the year a memorable one.
"It's been a tough year filled with challenges, but ultimately very rewarding, and I am starting this season on a strong note.
"I hope to continue this momentum over the next few months, aiming for numerous victories and a high position in the table as we approach the new year."
Born in Guernsey, Scott's journey to the Premier League has been anything but conventional.
He spent most of his youth career playing on his home island after being released by Southampton's academy at the age of 12.
His talent was recognized locally, leading to his debut with Guernsey FC in the Isthmian League at 16, followed by a transfer to Bristol City, owned by island resident Steve Lansdown, just a month later.
At Ashton Gate, he became a fan favorite, earning the nickname 'Guernsey Grealish' due to his playing style and rolled-down socks, reminiscent of England star Jack Grealish.
"At that time, I never imagined I would become a professional football player, let alone compete in the Premier League or represent England," he reflected.
"The past five or six years have been a whirlwind, bringing drastic changes for me, my family, and friends back home.
"So many individuals have played a role in my development, and I will always be grateful to them."
Scott's £25 million transfer to Bournemouth in the summer of 2023 made him the first player from Guernsey to play in the Premier League since Matt Le Tissier, the only player from the island to have represented England.
He also followed in the footsteps of his close friend Maya Le Tissier, a regular for the England women's team and captain of Manchester United in the Women's Super League.
"It's fantastic for our island to have both Maya and myself achieving success in our respective games," he added.
"I hope to serve as a role model for the younger generation, showing them that opportunities exist if they pursue them.
"Maya is an inspiration for young girls, having made significant contributions to women's football back home, which continues to grow rapidly.
"It's crucial for them to understand that if they are talented and committed, the opportunities are there, and I am grateful for the support I have received from my community."
