Barcelona Extends La Liga Lead with Thrilling Victory Over Real Betis
Ferran Torres scored a first-half hat-trick, leading Barcelona to a 5-3 victory over Real Betis and extending their lead at the top of La Liga to four points.
Entering the match at Estadio La Cartuja with a one-point advantage over rivals Real Madrid, Barcelona faced an early setback when former Manchester United winger Antony netted his fifth goal of the season just six minutes into the game.
However, Barcelona quickly equalized five minutes later. Torres finished off a well-coordinated team move, tapping in from close range to bring the score to 1-1.
Two minutes later, Torres put Barcelona ahead with a stunning volley inside the box. The 20-year-old Swedish winger Roony Bardghji then scored his first La Liga goal, extending the lead to 3-1 after half an hour by connecting with a pass from Pedri and finishing at the near post.
Torres completed his hat-trick five minutes before halftime with a perfectly placed shot from outside the box, making it 4-1.
In the second half, Barcelona continued their offensive push and were awarded a controversial penalty after the video assistant referee (VAR) ruled that Marc Bartra's block had inadvertently touched his hand.
Lamine Yamal confidently converted the penalty for his sixth goal of the season, bringing the score to 5-1. Diego Llorente added a second goal for Betis in the 85th minute, making it 5-2.
Betis managed to score again in the final moments of the match when Jules Kounde fouled Abde Ezzalzouli in the box, allowing Cucho Hernandez to convert the penalty in the 90th minute, finalizing the score at 5-3.
