Barcelona's Gavi Faces Lengthy Recovery After Knee Surgery
Barcelona midfielder Gavi could be sidelined for up to five months following knee surgery.
The 21-year-old player participated in Barcelona's first two matches of the season before injuring his right knee during a training session in August.
There were initial concerns that the Spain international had re-injured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear he suffered in 2023.
Fortunately, scans confirmed that Gavi had not torn his ACL; however, he underwent surgery to repair damaged cartilage.
According to a statement from Barcelona, "Gavi has had an arthroscopy to address a medial meniscus injury, which was sutured to preserve the meniscus. Recovery time is estimated to be around 4-5 months."
Gavi made history as the fourth youngest debutant in Barcelona's history when he first took the field in 2021. Since then, he has scored 10 goals in 155 appearances and has won five trophies with the club.
Last November, while on international duty with Spain, Gavi suffered an ACL tear that kept him out for 11 months.
Currently, Barcelona sits second in La Liga, trailing rivals Real Madrid by five points, though they have a game in hand.
