Borussia Dortmund Signs Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea
Borussia Dortmund has secured the permanent signing of England youth international Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea.
The 21-year-old midfielder previously spent the latter half of last season on loan at Dortmund and joins the club for a fee that could rise to approximately £24 million.
Chukwuemeka made a total of 32 appearances for Chelsea after his £20 million transfer from Aston Villa in 2022.
In addition, Chelsea defender Aaron Anselmino has also agreed to join Dortmund on a season-long loan and has traveled to Germany to finalize the deal.
This transfer of Chukwuemeka contributes to Chelsea's total income from player sales this summer, which has exceeded £270 million, nearly offsetting the £277 million spent on incoming transfers.
Uefa, the governing body of European football, has informed Chelsea that they must achieve a positive transfer balance during this window to be eligible to register their new signings for the current season’s Champions League.
This requirement follows a £26.7 million fine imposed on Chelsea for breaching Uefa's financial regulations, alongside concerns regarding their squad cost ratio, which has exceeded 80% of their income spent on wages.
Several other players are rumored to be leaving Stamford Bridge ahead of Monday's transfer deadline, including forwards Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, and Tyrique George, as well as winger Raheem Sterling and defender Ben Chilwell.
Chelsea may also seek to add to their squad, with Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho and RB Leipzig midfielder Xavi Simons among those linked with a move to the club.
