Brazil Manager Provides Update on Gabriel's Injury
Brazil's national team manager, Carlo Ancelotti, has announced that Arsenal defender Gabriel will undergo assessment on Sunday following a groin injury sustained during a friendly match against Senegal in London.
The 27-year-old player experienced discomfort off the ball just before the hour mark, receiving treatment for his right thigh before being substituted.
Gabriel has been a central figure in Arsenal's defense, contributing to the team's position at the top of the Premier League table, where they have conceded only five goals across 11 league matches.
The Gunners are set to face their North London rivals, Tottenham, on November 23, followed by a Champions League match against Bayern Munich the following Wednesday.
“Is it bad? I’m not sure. He has an injury in his adductor,” Ancelotti stated. “The medical staff will need to evaluate him tomorrow. We are truly sorry about this; it’s very disappointing. When a player is injured, we hope for a swift and complete recovery.”
In the friendly, Brazil secured a 2-0 victory against Senegal at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium, with goals from Chelsea's young winger Estevao and Manchester United midfielder Casemiro.
In related news, Italy's head coach Gennaro Gattuso confirmed that Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori has departed from the international camp.
Calafiori did not participate in Italy's World Cup qualifying win over Moldova on Thursday, as he had been following an individualized training regimen for load management.
“We tried to integrate Calafiori into the squad, but he encountered some issues,” Gattuso told Sky Sports Italia ahead of Italy's match against Norway on Sunday. “I appreciate his dedication. He remained with us for a week; while he could have possibly played, it wouldn’t have been fair to him or Arsenal.”
A source informed BBC Sport that Calafiori has not returned to Arsenal for treatment.
