Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has announced plans to recruit additional players as the new season approaches. This statement follows the introduction of new striker Shin Yamada to fans, preceding Celtic's 4-0 victory over Newcastle United in a friendly match held on Saturday.
The 25-year-old Japan international is among three attacking players Rodgers has added to the squad this summer, alongside winger Benjamin Nygren and striker Callum Osmand. The team's defense has also been strengthened with the inclusion of Hayato Inamura and Kieran Tierney.
"We've got a lot more to come, and we have more players to bring in," Rodgers conveyed to the club's media. "We need and want to enhance the squad further by bringing in additional players to support the existing team members."
In the match against Newcastle, Inamura was part of the starting lineup, while Nygren and Tierney were introduced as second-half substitutes. Rodgers praised Celtic's performance as "very impressive," noting Arne Engels' successful penalty and Johnny Kenny's goal before halftime. Yang Hyun-jun added a third goal, and Tierney assisted fellow substitute Liam Scales for the fourth.
Celtic is scheduled to face Ajax in Italy on Thursday, followed by a match against either tournament hosts Como or Al-Ahli on July 26 or 27. They will commence their Premiership title defense at home against Kilmarnock on August 3.
