Crystal Palace's Historic Premier League Campaign
Currently sitting fourth in the league, Crystal Palace is experiencing its best-ever Premier League season, showcasing quality across the pitch and benefiting from strong leadership.
Marc Guehi's late header secured a narrow 2-1 victory against Fulham on Sunday, propelling the Eagles into the Champions League spots.
With 26 points from their first 15 matches, this is the club's highest tally at this stage of a top-flight season, positioning them as serious contenders for European competition next year.
Eddie Nketiah, who scored the opening goal during his 50th appearance for the club, remarked, "the sky is the limit" if the team maintains its current form. Manager Oliver Glasner also commended his players, stating, "I could mention many players, but it was a huge team effort - that makes me very proud. That's why we are where we are."
However, this praise comes just a week after Glasner publicly criticized the club for its lack of summer investment following a 2-1 home defeat to Manchester United.
With his contract expiring at the end of the season and uncertainty surrounding key players like Guehi and Adam Wharton, concerns linger behind the scenes at Selhurst Park.

Glasner: The Greatest Manager in Palace History
Glasner joined Crystal Palace in February 2024 after successful tenures at Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt. Since his arrival, the 51-year-old has led the club to consecutive record points totals in the Premier League and secured their first major trophy by defeating Manchester City in the FA Cup last season.
This victory marked Palace's inaugural appearance in a major European competition, albeit downgraded from the Europa League to the Europa Conference League due to multi-club ownership regulations. Additionally, they triumphed over league champions Liverpool to claim the Community Shield.
Former Liverpool and England defender Jamie Carragher stated on Sky Sports, "We are witnessing the best manager and the best team in Crystal Palace's history. Supporters could not have dreamed of such success when he took charge."
Selhurst Park has become a fortress, with Palace remaining unbeaten at home in the league until their recent loss to United. Their away form has also been impressive; since Glasner's first match in March 2024, only Arsenal (65), Liverpool (57), and Manchester City (55) have accrued more away points than Palace's 52.
However, the defeat to United prompted Glasner to express frustration over the club's failure to reinvest the record £60 million received from Eberechi Eze's summer transfer. His team has struggled in league matches following midweek European fixtures, highlighting issues with squad depth and the challenges of managing an increased schedule.
Glasner asserted that the club has "thrown away" the opportunity for an even more successful season due to a lack of summer spending.
"When he receives a result he dislikes, he is not hesitant to voice his concerns about the board or the sporting director," Carragher noted. "They will likely have to accept this because he is the greatest manager in their history."
Squad Depth Concerns Amid Success
Glasner's ambition is evident, but he seems to feel constrained by a lack of squad depth. He hopes his recent comments will trigger significant activity during the January transfer window.
With his contract set to expire in June, aligning the ambitions of both the club and the manager is crucial for continuing their current success.
Former Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given commented on BBC Sport, "If you’re in a director’s position, you should be working to secure him. The achievements he has made—winning the FA Cup and Charity Shield, and bringing Palace into Europe—are phenomenal. He was understandably upset after the United match, feeling unsupported in the summer. It will be interesting to see what happens in January and the summer regarding backing him."
Guehi's contract also expires at the end of the season, and interest from Liverpool in the England defender is expected to grow, especially given their current defensive issues. Additionally, playmaker Wharton is attracting attention from multiple clubs.
Talented players like Ismaila Sarr, currently injured but heading to Afcon, and Jean-Philippe Mateta may also aspire to play in the Champions League.
As Given pointed out, "The squad's not large enough to rest players, which places additional strain on Premier League matches. Finishing in the top six would be an incredible achievement, but other big clubs will be vying for the same goal."
While this Palace squad may be enjoying its finest period, it also faces the risk of disbandment, potentially derailing what could be a stellar campaign.
