Evan Ferguson Scores First Serie A Goal in Roma's Victory
Evan Ferguson netted his inaugural Serie A goal, contributing to Roma's decisive win against Cremonese.
The Republic of Ireland striker, who joined Roma on a season-long loan from Brighton in July, scored the second goal for Roma just four minutes after entering the match as a substitute, skillfully directing a shot into the bottom corner from within the penalty area.
Ferguson had previously scored four goals during his debut for Roma in a 9-0 pre-season friendly against Serie D side UniPomezia, but this marked his first competitive goal for Gian Piero Gasperini's team.
In addition to Ferguson, Matias Soule and Wesley Franca also found the back of the net for Roma, while Francesco Folino scored a late consolation goal for Cremonese during stoppage time at Stadio Giovanni Zini.
This victory propelled Roma to the top of the Serie A table, although Inter Milan could reclaim the position if they defeat city rivals AC Milan later on Sunday.
Ferguson was returning from an ankle injury that had sidelined him for Roma's three matches prior to the international break. He is working to revive his career after experiencing a dip in form and falling down the pecking order at Brighton, where his only goal last season was over a year ago against Wolves.
So far this season, Ferguson has participated in eight of Roma's twelve league matches and three of their four Europa League games.
Jamie Vardy, the former Leicester striker who has scored two goals for Cremonese this season, played the full 90 minutes in this match.
