Exeter City vs. Burton Albion Match Postponed Due to Fire Damage
Exeter City's League One match against Burton Albion, scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed due to a fire at their St James Park stadium.
The fire, which occurred last week, caused significant damage to the stadium's control room, rendering it irreparable in time to ensure safety for the upcoming fixture.
Additionally, the blaze compromised the electricity supply to the Adam Stansfield Stand, as well as affecting the public address system, fire alarm systems, first aid facilities, and internal computer networks.
In response, the club initiated repair work earlier this week and has launched a crowdfunding campaign to help finance the repairs while awaiting an insurance payout.
In a statement, the club expressed, "Despite the extraordinary efforts of club staff, volunteers, and local businesses, we are unable to complete the extensive repairs required or perform the essential safety testing needed to ensure all systems are operating safely for our supporters and players."
They added, "Repair work will continue at pace as we aim to restore the stadium to full operation as quickly as possible. Everyone at Exeter City would like to thank our incredible supporters for their unwavering backing during this difficult time. We are stronger together."
A new date for the match will be announced in the near future.
