Fabio Borini Joins Salford City on Short-Term Contract
Former Liverpool and Sunderland striker Fabio Borini has signed with League Two club Salford City on a contract that runs until January.
The 34-year-old forward, who recently departed Sampdoria in Italy, has been training with Salford for the past month.
"I came in to train to keep myself fit during this transition between contracts, and Salford's manager, Karl Robinson, along with Alex Bruce, kindly allowed me to use the facilities and train here," Borini stated on the club's website.
He added, "I’ve never played in League Two, so I need to learn from my teammates about the key characteristics of this league. I see myself as an open book, ready for my teammates to use, learn from, or help me. I’m very open to this challenge."
"This is a challenge that I’m embracing, as I wanted to return to real football—something that truly ignites my passion for the game, rather than anything else."
Borini made his Premier League debut for Chelsea in 2009 and played a pivotal role in helping Swansea gain promotion to the English top flight during a loan spell in 2011. His career also includes stints at notable Italian clubs such as Roma and AC Milan.
While at Sunderland, he notably scored in the 2014 League Cup final, where the Black Cats faced Manchester City at Wembley.
