Gary O'Neil in Talks for Potential Return to Wolves
Gary O'Neil is reportedly in discussions with Wolverhampton Wanderers regarding a potential return to the club, less than a year after being dismissed from his position.
Wolves have initiated the search for a new head coach following the recent firing of Vitor Pereira on Sunday morning.
According to BBC Sport, O'Neil, along with Middlesbrough manager Rob Edwards, is among the candidates being considered to succeed Pereira at the Midlands club.
Sources indicate that O'Neil, 42, is currently engaged in positive discussions with Wolves regarding a possible return.
However, appointing Edwards could pose challenges, as Middlesbrough is believed to be entitled to a substantial compensation fee should he leave.
This situation leaves O'Neil in a favorable position, although he is not the only candidate under consideration.
Wolves have a history of hiring managers with close ties to prominent agent Jorge Mendes, including Nuno Espirito Santo, Bruno Lage, and Pereira.
In addition to O'Neil, Wolves are also in talks with at least one manager associated with Mendes.
O'Neil was let go by Wolves in December 2024 following a disappointing start to the 2024-25 season. However, the former West Ham midfielder is eager to return to management and is open to rejoining Wolves, who are currently winless after their first ten matches of the Premier League season.
